During the launch of the “Donate for Desh” crowdfunding campaign on Monday, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge emphasized that Mahatma Gandhi secured the country’s independence through the collective support of its people. Expressing his satisfaction with the party’s leaders creating a dedicated app, Kharge remarked that this marks a significant moment as the Congress seeks assistance from the common citizens for nation-building.

Kharge stated, “It’s a joyous occasion that our party has introduced an app. This is the first instance where Congress is reaching out to the common people to contribute to the nation’s progress.” He reiterated the historical context, saying, “Through ‘Donate for Desh,’ we aim to propel the nation forward with the assistance of the general public, just as Mahatma Gandhi achieved independence with their support.”

Highlighting the campaign’s approach, Kharge mentioned that the party intends to receive contributions from small donors, emphasizing the importance of voluntary donations within a short span. He emphasized the need to avoid dependence on the affluent, stating, “If we rely on the rich, we might have to conform to their agendas and policies in the future.”

The ‘Donate for Desh’ crowdfunding drive was launched to commemorate the party’s 138 years of existence. The Congress website features a payment link encouraging donors to contribute in installments of Rs 138, Rs 1,380, or Rs 13,800, while also allowing for different amounts. The campaign’s objective, as articulated by Congress, is to advocate for the rights of marginalized communities, address disparities, and serve as a robust opposition against a government perceived to favor the affluent.

In an appeal to the public, Congress urged individuals to join the fight against rising unemployment and costs, supporting the party as it enters its 138th year with renewed strength and determination. During the campaign launch, Kharge led by example, contributing Rs 1,38,000 in the presence of Congress leaders and General Secretaries K C Venugopal, Jairam Ramesh, and Treasurer Ajay Maken.

KC Venugopal shared that the drive drew inspiration from Mahatma Gandhi’s “Tilak Swaraj Fund,” initiated in 1920-21. The “Donate for Desh” initiative will primarily operate online until the Congress’s foundation day on December 28, after which party volunteers will conduct door-to-door campaigns to solicit donations of at least Rs 138.

Note: “donatefordesh.org.in” is an independent initiative and is not affiliated with any political party. Our primary objective is humanitarian and philanthropic in nature. We operate with transparency, integrity, and a steadfast commitment to our mission, ensuring that our platform remains a neutral space for genuine contributions and support.
